Kittewake (Enlarge)

Photographed on the Farne Islands, Northumberland, UK, in June 2008.

The black-legged kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla) is a seabird from the gull family that breeds in large colonies on cliffs. They eat fish, and are less prone to scavenging than some other gulls. The word "kittiwake" comes from the sound they make.
