Bardsey Island is the legendary Island of 20,000 saints. Saint Cadfan built a monastery upon it in 516, and was a major centre of pilgrimage ever since. The monastery itself was destroyed by Henry VIII in 1537. It is claimed to be the burial site of King Arthur.
